About the role
We’re looking for an experienced estates professional to play a key role in delivering WIG’s Estates policies and strategy, helping us develop our estate and achieve our wider business objectives.
As our in-house subject matter expert, you’ll manage a varied caseload of transactional and property management matters with autonomy, acting as a trusted partner across the business. You’ll work closely with teams including Network Services, Finance, Site Access, Site Maintenance, Health & Safety and Legal to support the effective management of our 3,000+ site portfolio.
Key responsibilities
Transactional Projects
- Manage your own caseload of estates transactional projects, negotiating within agreed parameters to secure best value for the business.
- Deliver projects on time and in line with programme requirements, preparing robust business cases supported by thorough due diligence where required.
Property Management
- Oversee property management activities across WIG’s estate in the UK and Republic of Ireland, managing assets throughout their lifecycle.
- Ensure compliance with contractual and statutory obligations to stakeholders including landlords, neighbours, customers and local authorities.
- Identify and mitigate site-level risks to ensure the portfolio remains fully operational and accessible.
- Work closely with colleagues to ensure a safe working environment for all site attendees.
Project Management
- Act as a key point of contact for partners and suppliers, ensuring delivery against service levels and programme timelines.
- Lead regular review meetings, resolving issues, removing blockers and providing guidance to keep projects on track.
Customer Rollout
- Support Network Services by advising on property agreements and securing landlord consents as needed, ensuring timely delivery.
Stakeholder Management
- Build and maintain positive relationships with landlords, neighbours and local communities to support site development and maximise portfolio usage.
- Engage proactively with WIG’s customers, enhancing our reputation for flexibility and reliable delivery.
- Manage external supplier relationships to ensure estates transactions meet service levels and align with commercial objectives.
- Act as a trusted advisor to colleagues across the business, reinforcing the estates team’s role as a key partner.
Support & Guidance
- Provide mentoring and support to graduate surveyors as part of WIG’s Graduate Training Programme.
Compliance & Security
- Contribute actively to WIG’s health & safety, environmental, business continuity and information security commitments, ensuring compliance across all areas.
The ideal candidate will have
Experience (Technical & Industry)
- Broad experience in estates and property management.
- Proven negotiation skills, including preparation of written instructions to solicitors.
- Hands-on track record delivering estates transactions such as lease renewals, freehold acquisitions, open market rent reviews and assignments.
- Solid understanding of the Electronic Communications Code, the Landlord & Tenant Act 1954, relevant case law and the UK/Ireland telecommunications property market.
- Practical valuation experience.
Desired:
- Experience undertaking valuations in line with the principles of the Electronic Communications Code.
- Knowledge of property regimes across England & Wales, Scotland, Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland.
Education & Qualifications
- RICS Chartered Surveyor (minimum one year post-qualification experience).
Desired:
- RICS Registered Valuer status.
Skills & Knowledge
- Commercially astute with strong market awareness in the telecommunications sector.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to influence and engage at all levels.
- Proven negotiation expertise.
- Effective stakeholder management and relationship-building skills.
- Strong IT skills, including intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Office (particularly Excel).
- Ability to mentor and support junior colleagues.
Desired:
- Established network of contacts within the telecoms industry.
- Formal negotiation training from a recognised body or trainer.
