UK, London 25\/10\/2018: Wireless Infrastructure Group (WIG) has signed an agreement with communications infrastructure provider\u00a0Arqiva<\/a>, to purchase its entire portfolio of Indoor Networks.<\/p>\n

The acquisition comprises 42 networks across the UK, covering busy locations such as Canary Wharf, Luton Airport, Excel Centre and several shopping centres including Bluewater, Arndale and Meadowhall.\u00a0 The acquisition is part of WIG\u2019s strategy to help building owners and mobile operators improve mobile connectivity across the UK\u2019s work-places, hotels, hospitals, retail destinations and transport hubs.<\/p>\n

Edinburgh-based WIG, who last month completed a fund raising of \u00a3220 million to boost new infrastructure investment, is a key investor in the deployment and management of indoor neutral-host mobile infrastructure in the UK.\u00a0 The majority of mobile calls are made indoors and enabling coverage often needs dedicated indoor infrastructure to be deployed.\u00a0 As a neutral-host operator WIG invests in high capacity networks that can be used by all mobile operators.\u00a0 WIG has deployed infrastructure in some of the UK\u2019s highest profile venues such as the Leadenhall Building, MediaCity, the Savoy Hotel, intu Trafford Centre and Liverpool FC\u2019s Anfield Stadium.<\/p>\n

The transaction increases the size of WIG\u2019s Indoor Networks business by around one-third.<\/p>\n

Financial terms were not disclosed.<\/p>\n

WIG CEO Scott Coates, commented:<\/strong><\/p>\n

\u201cThis is an important acquisition for WIG as we step up our efforts to help mobile operators and building owners enable better indoor connectivity across the UK\u2019<\/p>\n

\u201cImproving indoor mobile connectivity can increase productivity in offices, dwell time in retail and is now considered essential by hotel guests and event organisers. Dedicated indoor mobile infrastructure is often the only way to enable high quality indoor signal and building owners are increasingly stepping forward to help address this challenge\u201d.<\/p>\n

\u201cIndoor Networks need to be carefully managed over their lifecycle and WIG\u2019s experienced operations team will ensure the continued smooth operation of all of our newly acquired networks.\u00a0 Follow on investments are also important to ensure networks keep pace with changing demands and we look forward to expanding and upgrading the infrastructure in partnership with the mobile operators\u201d.<\/p>\n

\u201cWIG is an ideal fit for Arqiva\u2019s Indoor Networks business, given their focus in this area, and will be a good new owner for the colleagues and customers that will transfer over.\u00a0 Arqiva has made strong progress in this area over the past few years, building an attractive customer proposition. However as we focus on our core business of providing outdoor infrastructure and connectivity solutions we felt that our Indoor Networks activities would be better developed by another party.\u201d<\/p>\n
