With 35 million visitors a year, Trafford Centre is one of the UK’s busiest shopping malls. The centre extends to over 2.2 million square feet of prime retail space, accommodating over 200 top high street brands as well as Europe’s largest food court and other premium leisure facilities.
The challenge
Trafford Centre faced significant mobile signal challenges caused largely by its scale, complex architectural design, multi-level layout and materials like steel, glass and concrete which were used during the Centre’s construction.
Collectively these issues prevented external mobile signals from penetrating the building, resulting in weak coverage and a poor mobile service throughout the Centre. This negatively impacted the visitor experience making it difficult for shoppers to stay connected with friends and family. It also created challenges for retail tenants and Trafford Centre management with many e-commerce and operational applications relying on high-quality mobile signal to function properly.
